October 7, 2024THAT’S NAPOLI LIVE SHOW.
October 7, 2024Fall in love with Naples by seeing it from the sea. We exclusively suggest a new, beautiful sea tour to discover the famous hill of Posillipo, the ancient Παυσιλυπον (Pausilypon), which literally means “respite from danger” or “that which takes away pain,” a name linked to the panoramic view of the city’s coastline and the gulf, a view that was also enjoyed two thousand years ago. The Greeks were the first to inhabit the promontory, which was once entirely covered by rocks and trees. Ancient Roman ruins are still present near the shores, as well as close to the highest point of the hill. After the fall of the ancient age, the population of Naples retreated within the fortified walls, and the entire area fell into decline, succumbing to barbarian invasions and neglect. In the modern era, the area remained largely underdeveloped until the construction of Via Posillipo between 1812 and 1824.
Tourists will fall in love with Naples with this wonderful tour of the city seen from the sea aboard a traditional fisherman’s boat (maximum 8 people), accompanied by an expert, licensed guide who is well-versed in the secrets of the Posillipo coast. The journey starts from the characteristic Borgo Marinari (Castel dell'Ovo), sailing along the coastline from Largo Sermoneta to the bay below the Virgiliano Park. Along the way, you'll admire magnificent villas and palaces on the famous Posillipo hill, one of the most enchanting places in Naples, offering plenty of opportunities to take photos and capture unforgettable moments.
The guide will recount fragments of history about the most splendid and ancient villas in Naples along the coast, sharing myths and legends while your gaze drifts over enchanting landscapes, coves, grottoes carved into the tuff stone, and crevices in cliffs covered with Mediterranean scrub. You’ll pass some marvelous villas, including the beautiful Palazzo Donn’Anna, with its ruin-like appearance in a spectacular location, often depicted in paintings and left unfinished by Fanzago. Other highlights include the Lido delle Monache, the Bay of San Pietro ai due Frati, Villa Grottamarina, Villa Roccaromana, Villa Rocca Matilde (Villa Lauro).
You will also admire ancient Roman structures, including a gallery known as the Grotta di Seiano, which allowed access to the Roman ports of Pozzuoli and Miseno. The tour continues to the tiny harbor of Riva Fiorita, dominated by Villa Volpicelli, a castle-like structure right on the sea, where some exterior scenes of the famous Neapolitan TV series “Un posto al Sole” are filmed. Other landmarks include Villa Rosebery (the summer residence of the President of the Italian Republic), Villa Emma (Villa Barracco), Cala della Zafferana (Rocce Verdi), and Villa della Gaiola. The tour concludes with a return by boat to Borgo Marinari.
